To start this off, I should say that I was not newly introduced to blogging this school year, but instead I was introduced to new ideas and new ways to improve my blogging. In Ms. Dockus' American Lit class, she would assign us a blogging assignment each month which had to relate to learning in some way. I did not do this basic 'learning how to ride a bike" or "learning how to make a sandwich" type of blogs. Instead, I took what I have learned mentally in life and my experiences to write blogs on learning how to improve your mental being. http://s3.amazonaws.com/thumbnails.illustrationsource.com Being able to think about my thinking/learning for school purposes benefited me in many ways. Not only did it help keep my grade up, it helped me to expand the way I think and the way I process the things that I have learned in life. In all honesty, the blog posts were my favorite part of American Literature this year.
Ms. Dockus always gave us students a fair amount of time to get our blog posts completed, which really helped me to take the time to blog about something that was inspiring, relevant, and thought provoking. I have used tumblr, twitter, and uses of social media to semi-express the thoughts I have in my mind. Although, nothing will compare to being able to learn for school and for personal reasons all at once! I appreciated this year and the teacher I had to help me improve my English skills.

hiphopdx.com Aubrey Drake Graham, also known as Drake, is an inspiring artist with many talents. Not only is he beautiful in the music industry, but he also was once an actor on the previously aired show Degrassi. At 29 years of age, Drake has people from various ages loving his style and word choice in his music. Although, you have to be able to understand it. So join me in this blog post to understand and learn to appreciate the work of Drake.
Drake writes music to get you to think, music to get you to appreciate, and music to get you feeling inspired. Drake inspires me in many ways, but this is only because I learned to appreciate the way he writes and the way he puts his words into music. When listening to a Drake song, you have to relate it to your life somehow. Even if you don't think there is any way his lyrics can connect with anything you have experienced, imagine experiencing whatever it is that he may be singing/rapping about. Being able to connect with Drake almost becomes a religion; not to lose sight of actual religion, but to paint a picture for your mind on how spiritual his music can be for the soul. Interacting with the greatness of his vibe and the beats behind his voice really opens up the mind to many new creative ideas and outlooks on life. The only way to learn to listen to Drake the proper way is to learn to connect with him as an artist on a personal level. This is with any artist, not just Drake. Although Drake brings a new opening to your thoughts and musical interest; try it out! Have you ever listened to Drake? Do you appreciate his music? Can you learn from his lyrics and the beats behind them? Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. Taia V pixabay.com I am going to start this blog post off with a personal story on my outlook of love. Perhaps I do not even know what love is, but the feeling I experienced and the feelings that still fly throughout my body when hearing the word "love" draw my mind closer to the thought that maybe... Just maybe, I am in love. Although, the Bible says that love never fails, so if it does, then it was not love. That is where I begin to realize that this feeling I possess could be love, but not being in love. I had been with this girl for not too long, but when we ended, I felt as if my heart had shattered into pieces. To this day I am clueless to why it could not just work out, why it had to come to an end, why I was not good enough for this girl. I have so many questions, but love should not be questioned. I believe that an individual cannot love another person until they thoroughly love their self. I will not give a name for this girl, but just know she is the most beautiful girl I have ever met, and not just her mind. Except, she forgets that it is important to be true to herself and to love herself before attempting to be committed in a relationship. I believe her lack of trust and love for herself is the reasoning to why we did not work out. I will forever have a place in my heart for her, she is like my best friend who I do not communicate with. She is the girl that I wanted to give the world, even when I did not get in return. Here comes the downfall. This amazing girl, treated me like I was average when I knew I deserved more. She treated me like I was just another person when I treated her like a queen. This is what drove me away, and this is what caused me to realize my worth, put my foot down, and walk away from a toxic relationship. Being without a relationship after some time spending many memories with a girl I care about a lot has been stressful, yet very relieving to realizing that I am worth more than just average. When it comes to love, or really strong feelings, you have to learn to love both ways. Both ways means loving yourself and loving your partner, but you cannot do the second without doing the first. You have to learn to recognize your worth and what you deserve, no matter how strong you may feel, and learning to do that is simple if you surround yourself by people who encourage the greatness that you possess.
Have you ever been in love, or thought you were in love? If so, did it fail, or is it still going? If not, do you hope to soon be in love, or one day be in love? https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/eb/Maroper_Music.jpg When you hear the word intoxication, does drinking alcohol instantly pop into your mind? Now I am almost certain that everyone knows someone who has been intoxicated by alcohol, and that someone may be a close family member, a friend, or even yourself. What if there was another way to intoxicate yourself that was not harmful to the liver, the brain, the heart, or the body in general? You are probably thinking to yourself "this girl is nuts, onto the next blog," but wait, I promise this gets good. Now to finish thoroughly enjoying this blog, I would advise you to play your favorite song while reading the rest of the information on this post, but the instrumental version so that there are not any words interrupting what you are reading.
While hearing the music playing through your ears, or allowed in the room you are in, picture yourself in your favorite place. Think of a place of happiness in your life and relate it to the rhythm of the music playing in the background of the voice inside of your mind. How can a person learn to use music as a drug to alter the negativity in their life into a positive perspective on negative situations? Seems as if it is almost an impossible task, but think about this. You are sitting here doing homework by reading my blog, hoping to comment, but you have now forgotten about that due to the distraction of music. Music can change the way your mind makes priorities, which could induce a sense of "high" or "intoxication." When you are in tough situations, take a moment to allow music to take over. Music can guide your mind to a positive place in any situation, as long as you thoroughly interpret the beat of the sounds traveling through your ears, it is almost like a drug. Changing the way your mind thinks, your body now has a strong sense of pleasure, all because of a song. Think of your absolute favorite song that makes your day better, not just a song that you hear often, but one that really inspires/speaks to you. When you hear that song, what does your mind instantly say to you? Do you think of negative thoughts when the music travels through your ears? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Positive_psychology_optimism.svgRelate the negative words that people may bring to your attention and speak in your presence. Whether it may be about you, or someone else, how do you learn to filter negative thoughts that come into your ears with positive thoughts to exit your mouth?
Perhaps your best friend comes up to you and tells you that they overheard someone who was speaking badly about you. A lot of people's instant reaction is to get rowdy and/or hyped up about was said, and want to jump into the situation; which makes the current issue much worse than it already was. How does an individual learn to inhale the negativity and turn it into a big exhale of positivity? This may seem like an impossible task if you're reading this and you know you are the type of person to jump to conclusions, but it is not impossible. I was once the type of person to have a very high temper, especially when it came to negativity about myself or someone I care about. I would hear negativity, and elude even more negative actions. I finally learned after a few years of behaving like that, that it is unhealthy for growth of the human mind. An article on Mayo Clinic stated "[i]f the thoughts that run through your head are mostly negative, your outlook on life is more likely pessimistic. If your thoughts are mostly positive, you're likely an optimist — someone who practices positive thinking." I have taught myself to become an optimist which helps me to recognize that situations in the moment that may spread negativity through my head do not need a negative outcome. Releasing positivity from a negative situation helps mental growth by helping "you to cope better with stressful situations, which reduces the harmful health effects of stress on your body." When negativity comes your way, just think of the health and life benefits. Knowing the great outcome of exhaling positivity will help your mind to filter the good and the bad. This will help you in life to decrease stress, anger, and unnecessary negativity throughout your day. What comes to your mind when hearing the word homosexual? Do you think of the stereotypes that society portrays into the people of our world's mind? Do you imagine a unhappy couple of the same sex? When you took Sexual Education your freshman year, did they teach you anything about sexual orientation? What if schools taught the idea of same-sex marriage being okay? Do you think our society would act different? Image Credit: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8768/17113823229_339edb20f1_o_d.jpg Asking the above questions was not to upset or make any individual feel guilty. Although, a quote from Brainy Quote by a man named John Ridley states "[g]ay marriage will be universally accepted in time," which gives our generation hope to one day see homosexuality as not being different, but being accepted no matter what your sexual orientation may be. Except many individuals who were born and raised apart of the "baby booming" generation would agree with Ridley's statement: "[j]ust as my father and his generation did not 'wait' for their civil rights, nor should you. The toothpaste ain't going back in the tube. The tide has turned." With this strong quotation, our generation has a new style of sexual education to teach to not only adolescents, but even adults with not enough knowledge on how all humans should be treated equally. Civil rights are not just about race, culture, and religion, but also sexual orientation now plays a huge part in discrimination of today's society.
It's time that those who are educated on the truths about homosexuality should teach those who are not educated some common sense. Every human is the same, no matter what their ethnicity is, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities, etc. How do you think this country could grow as a whole in educating the society on the importance of treating the LGBTQ community as an equal community to those who are not apart of it? "Why are you acting so bipolar?" "Wow you're bipolar, you can never make up your mind." "Yeah she's crazy, it's like she's happy one minute and upset the next. So bipolar" Image Credit : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0a/Teatro.svg/2000px-Teatro.svg.png The quotations above are statements individuals come across every day. Either they hear it from another person, say it to another person, or they are told one of the statements by another person. Each statement seems like something okay to say, right? In fact, most of you reading those probably didn't see an issue at all.
Being "bipolar" is much more than just a mood. An individual who is bipolar suffers from a disorder that is a mental disorder characterized by periods of elevated mood and periods of depression. These periods are not just minutes, hours, or even days. They can last up to weeks, even months of either a really high state which is mania, or a really low state of depression. To get a little personal, I know a few individuals who have this, one being myself. Hearing people act as if being bipolar is nothing or as if it makes a person crazy, not only upsets me, but makes me wonder why it is that I have to experience it. People have to come to realize and learn that the words they say really can affect people. By gaining knowledge on this specific mental disorder, you may save a tear from someone who experiences bipolar disorder instead of producing a thousand just because they were not in the mood. Image Credit : https://pixabay.com/en/stairs-silhouettes-human-upward-70509/ Self-esteem has to be one of the most common topics brought upon teens in our society of the 21st century. Having low self-esteem seems to ruin adolescents, and having high-self esteem seems to do the exact same. How do teenagers learn to deal with finding the median between the highs and lows of self-esteem without it ruining their emotional/mental being? A theoretical answer to that question would be to just "stay in between," although, life was never meant to be that easy.
Thinking about how teenagers work in our society seems amazingly simple. Except, it's never that easy. Teens experience judgement, hatred, pain, and complications, all while learning to become who they're supposed to be. This can easily affect their self-esteem in the process of trying to keep it up there. The best advice to keeping a median with your self-esteem is to stay true to who you desire to be without worrying about what he/she says about their thoughts on you. This may not be easy, but life was never easy. Can you think of a time being yourself has resulted in negative karma? If so, you must've been worrying about something other than doing what makes you happy. Keep your focus on yourself and what happiness means to you in order to block out all negativity that enters your life. Try this out and see how well life treats you! If you disagree, let me know why. Focusing on my happiness has made life easier and more enjoyable throughout my teenage years with no hesitation. |
